Sometimes God Wants Us To Stop

I started my day by getting up early so I could take the MSW ministry van in for repairs. My morning was a blur of rushing and stressing to get things done quickly so I could get out to the office early. I felt tasks were beginning to pile up and I wanted to get a few things accomplished before the day really got going and rehearsals started.

When I made it to the office I thought, “man I’m really doing good, thanks God.” That’s when I realized I didn't have my keys to the office. Now I was faced with a choice. Do I let myself get angry and even more frustrated? Or, do I look for the blessing in this?  I walked over to Spirit in the Desert Retreat Center to just take a moment and on the way I thought, “You know, maybe God’s trying to tell me to stop.”

When I returned to my truck I sat for a moment with my windows down and found myself listening to the trickling of water coming from the fountain outside the office and the birds singing all around me in the trees.

As I sat and listened, I decided to read some Sarah Young and Oswald Chambers. All of sudden I realized “O my goodness, I have Bob Ravenscroft’s Morning Glories that I can listen to.  Technology is wonderful; with a few clicks I was able to listen to the Morning Glories recording and continue my morning meditation.

What a turn of events: God said, “stop” and what a beautiful time I had with Him for about 20 minutes. Then Caleb pulls in for work early - he had keys!  I still had time enough to get into the office before rehearsals and even to prepare coffee for the team.

My lesson from this is that I have to pay attention to what God is trying to tell me.  Sometimes in the midst of stressful situations, and even in ministry, He wants us to stop and spend time with Him. I'm thankful to God for the Morning Glories ministry with Bob Ravenscroft that helped me enter into the presence of God this day.

I hope you will listen, stop, and like me, be blessed above your circumstances. Perhaps Morning Glories will be a part of that experience for you too.

This scripture came to me later in the day.

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.  —1 Thessalonians 5:16–18

Have a blessed day,

I truly love days like this that I can reflect on. I don't always recognize God's call for fellowship with Him, but what a blessing it is when I do. Thanks for sharing Dwight! I look forward to hearing the Morning Glories when they become available on the site! :) peace to you.
